One example of a DBS system showing batteries, DBS wires, and programming platform. (please note Dr. Kamath has no financial relationship with any particular vendor).
Dr. Kamath has specialty training in treating movement disorders such as Dystonia with deep brain stimulation (DBS).
Dystonia is a movement disorder that can start at birth or be acquired in someone’s lifetime. It causes involuntary muscle contractions and twisting/stretching movements. Dystonia can be mild or severe; it may be a temporary problem, or a lifelong condition that requires treatments over time.
Dystonia may be treated with medications, injections, or physical therapy. For certain severe cases of dystonia that are not helped by these, DBS can provide relief.
If you have Dystonia, consider speaking to your provider about surgical options. Referrals for DBS surgery are made through a neurologist with specialized training in movement disorders. There are several well-qualified movement-disorders neurologists in Central Texas; a list is available here.
My practice philosophy is simple: treat patients as I would want myself or my family treated.
