About Dr. Kamath

Practice Philosophy

My practice philosophy is simple: treat patients as I would want myself or my family treated. I want my patients to understand exactly what their condition is, and what can be done about it. I prioritize clear, open conversations about treatment options, even though these conversations often happen in difficult or complex situations.
Being sent to a neurosurgeon’s office can be frightening, but keep in mind that many patients do not need surgery. I take pride in a conservative approach, and only recommend surgery if it is required and I truly believe it will be successful. Whether or not surgery is right for you, my goal is always to educate and alleviate any fears so we can decide on the best treatment plan together.

About Dr. Kamath

Dr. Kamath is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon in the Austin metro area, practicing with NeuroTexas. He specializes in cranial, spinal, and functional neurosurgery.

Dr. Kamath grew up in the NY/NJ area and earned his MD at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

He completed a 7-year neurosurgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. As a senior resident, he completed a 6-month rotation in neurosurgery at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, with an emphasis on spinal surgery.

In 2020, he completed a fellowship in functional neurosurgery at the Oregon Health & Science University – one of the highest-volume DBS centers in the country. While DBS traditionally requires waking the patient up in the operating room, he was fortunate to be trained to perform this remarkable procedure safely and accurately – with the patient completely asleep.

Dr. Kamath has been in practice since 2020. After living all around the country, he and his wife are excited to call Austin home! In his spare time, he enjoys early morning swims at Barton Springs, trying out new restaurants, and hiking with his family and rescue dog.
