Laminoplasty

Laminoplasty

A laminoplasty is a spine surgery done to decompress the spinal cord and nerve roots, as in cases of spondylosis or herniated discs.

Laminoplasty involves opening the “roof” of bone above the spinal cord and nerves and hinging it outward to create more space. In the case of a pinched nerve or compressed spinal cord, this allows room and can treat symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, or balance issues. Laminoplasty allows preservation of neck motion compared to a fusion.

Expectations around surgery, length of stay, and other specifics should be discussed in detail with your surgeon.
