Herniated, bulging, or “slipped” discs are commonly seen on MRIs of the spine. They can occur anywhere along the spinal column, but are most common in the neck (cervical spine) or lower back (lumbar spine), since these are the most mobile parts of the spine.
The choice of management depends on a detailed clinical history, physical exam, and review of imaging. Surgery is considered for selected patients with persistent symptoms, who have failed non-surgical interventions, and have a clear structural problem that can be corrected with surgery.
If you have a herniated disc in the neck or back, feel free to contact my office for a consultation or imaging review.
